**A New Hope for Children and Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes**

At our clinic, we understand the challenges that come with managing type 1 diabetes. That's why we're excited to share the story of Taisie Seigrist, a 15-year-old who took part in a clinical trial for Afrezza, an inhaled insulin.

Taisie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just 10 years old after experiencing persistent thirst and frequent urination. Her mom, Jennifer, recalled the day they received the diagnosis: "It was scary for both of us to hear."

Managing Type 1 Diabetes

For Taisie, managing her condition required multiple daily injections of mealtime insulin, which could be painful and inconvenient. She had to administer shots as often as seven times a day, including before school and during track and cross-country events.

The challenges of injected rapid-acting insulin were not just physical but also emotional. Taisie's classmates accused her of taking insulin shots for attention, making an already difficult condition feel even more isolating.

A New Treatment Option

In 2024, Taisie's endocrinologist asked if she would be interested in participating in a clinical trial for Afrezza, an inhaled mealtime insulin. This new treatment option has changed her life.

According to Michael Glazier, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Bluebird Kids Health, managing type 1 diabetes can be particularly challenging for children and adolescents due to varying schedules, feelings of denial and rebellion, as well as the inconvenience and stigma associated with injection administration in front of peers.

Afrezza offers a needle-free alternative that has made a significant difference in Taisie's life. We're excited about this new treatment option and its potential to improve the lives of children and adolescents living with type 1 diabetes.
