The new dosage, called Wegovy HD, will be 7.2 milligrams per weekly injection, compared to the original 2.4 milligrams per week. This increased dose is designed to provide greater weight loss for patients who have not reached their therapeutic goals with the lower dose.
According to clinical trials, the higher dose of Wegovy resulted in an average weight loss of 18.7% and saw at least a 25% weight loss in around one-third of participants. However, it's essential to note that this increased dose may also come with potential side effects.
**Potential Side Effects**The most common side effects of Wegovy include gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Additionally, reports of altered skin sensations, such as sensitivity, pain, or burning, occurred more frequently at higher doses.

**Important Considerations**Recent research has linked higher doses of Wegovy to an increased risk of ischemic optic neuropathy (ION), also known as "eye stroke," particularly in males.
